Everyone wants perfect skin right? I know I do! But did you know that there are little habits that most of us are guilty of doing that are sabotaging our skin?
NOTE! I am not a skin care expert, just little things that I have picked up along the way.

1. Makeup removal. This is by far one of the most important step to getting blemish-free skin. Oh the poor pores all suffocating with makeup in them. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remove your makeup before bed, your skin will love you for it. Also, using a makeup wipe is not sufficient. I suggest using a makeup wipe (I like the Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes) to remove the majority of the makeup, then go in with a toner or cleansing water like the Simple Cleansing Micellar Water (I have a full review on this product) to remove excess makeup before cleansing with a face wash. After all of those steps, your skin will be all clean and ready for a good night's sleep.

2. Speaking of face washes, please DO NOT use products with alcohol in them! A lot of astringents contain high amounts of alcohol and alcohol is very harsh on the skin. Harshness leads to irritation, and irritation leads to breakouts and bad skin! So avoid harsh stripping products on the skin. Even if you have oily skin, stripping away the natural oils is the worst thing you can do to your skin. I recommend gentle face cleansers like the cult favourite, Dove White Beauty Bar or the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, another cult favourite. Also choose alcohol-free toners or astringents like the Simple Soothing Facial Toner.

3. This one I cannot stress enough. Wear sunscreen! Just because it's a cloudy day, doesn't mean there aren't UVA and UVB rays damaging your skin! Always remember to wear sunscreen year-round on your face. It prevents pre-mature aging and sun spots, so you don't have to go spending lots of money to treat them later on. It is hard to reverse signs of aging, but it's not hard to prevent them. I've had great luck with the Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Lotion. Always look for broad spectrum, because that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

4. Keeping your environment clean is another important factor. Remember to clean makeup brushes, phone screens and pillow cases often, and refrain from touching your face. Those tiny pesky bacterium can cause troubles that are a million times their size.

5. Ah now it is time to talk about how we "should" all eat healthy and clean, and avoid refined sugars. It is totally true though. I notice a huge difference in my skin when I don't eat as much processed foods. However, to be realistic, I need my ice cream and chocolate... So, all I can advise is to eat healthy as much as possible.

6. Exercise is also an important factor to clear skin. We all have to sweat out some of the toxins that are trapped in our body (aka the ice cream I ate last night). So any activity that helps you break a sweat is great.

7. Sleep is also very important. If you feel tired, your skin will most likely reflect your fatigue. So getting enough sleep every night is a must. But for some of those days where you really can't sleep, cheat a good night's sleep with the Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep Mask (I also have a full review of this product).

8. And last but not least, the tip that you're all tired of hearing: drink more water! Dehydration not only feels terrible, but it looks terrible. So, always drink enough water to keep your pee clear (gross, I know). Drinking enough water also goes hand in hand with exercise, because it helps flush out toxins as well.

So all in all, there are many things we should be doing or avoiding in order to have flawless skin. Which one of these are you guilty of doing? Comment below and don't forget to share!

Good luck,
May
